Literacy Teaching Assistant - What the Role Involves
- Delivering targeted phonics, reading, and writing intervention sessions to individuals and small groups across the primary age range
- Supporting class teachers during English lessons to ensure every pupil can access and engage with the literacy curriculum
- Working with pupils identified as requiring additional literacy support, using structured, evidence-based programmes
- Tracking pupil reading and writing progress and feeding back regularly to the class teacher and English lead
- Building warm, encouraging relationships with pupils who may have previously struggled with or disengaged from literacy
Literacy Teaching Assistant - What the School is Looking For
The ideal Literacy Teaching Assistant will hold a 2:1 or 1st Class degree from a top 30 UK university, ideally in English, Education, or a related Humanities discipline. Previous child-centred experience in a UK primary school setting is highly valued. The school is seeking a passionate, patient, and creative Literacy Teaching Assistant with strong communication skills and a genuine love of language, reading, and writing.

Literacy Teaching Assistant - Salary and Contract Info
- £444 per week, pro rata to term time only
- Full-time, long-term contract from September 2026 to July 2027
- Term-time only
