Deputy Headteacher (Secondary) | Southwark | September 2026 Start

A secondary school in the Borough of Southwark is seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher from September 2026.

This is a permanent senior leadership position for an experienced leader with a strong track record in secondary education. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher to lead on whole-school priorities and maintain high standards across teaching, learning, behaviour and outcomes.

Deputy Headteacher – The Role

• Permanent leadership position starting September 2026

• Support the strategic direction and daily running of the school

• Lead on a key whole-school area (e.g. Teaching & Learning, Behaviour, Curriculum or Sixth Form)

• Line manage Heads of Department and middle leaders

• Oversee performance management and staff development

• Contribute to school improvement planning and Ofsted readiness

Deputy Headteacher – The School

• Well-established secondary school in Southwark

• Clear behaviour systems and consistent expectations

• Stable leadership team and committed staff body

• Strong pastoral structure

• Good transport links across South London

Deputy Headteacher – What the School Is Looking For

• Significant secondary leadership experience

• A proven record of improving outcomes at KS4 and KS5

• Clear, consistent and visible leadership

• Strong understanding of curriculum and assessment

• Ability to support and challenge middle leaders

Salary: L-Scale (Inner London), dependent on experience
