Job Description
English Lead Practitioner – Enfield – September 2026
A high-performing secondary school with sixth form in Enfield is seeking an exceptional English Lead Practitioner to join their outstanding English faculty from September 2026. This is a permanent English Lead Practitioner role within a school rated Outstanding by Ofsted, recognised for its culture of pedagogical excellence, ambitious literary curriculum, and genuine commitment to developing the very best classroom practitioners.
About the School
This Enfield secondary school and sixth form has built a strong and well-deserved reputation for academic rigour and innovative, evidence-based teaching. The English department delivers a rich, knowledge-driven curriculum spanning classic and contemporary literature, analytical writing, language study, and oracy development across KS3, KS4, and KS5, with consistently strong examination outcomes at every level. Behaviour is underpinned by robust, consistent whole-school systems - enabling teachers to lead learning with confidence and authority. Staff development is a genuine priority, and the school actively seeks practitioners who can both model and inspire excellence across the wider teaching community.
What the School Offers
- A senior TLR-supported English Lead Practitioner role with meaningful whole-school teaching and learning influence
- Structured CPD programme with access to research partnerships and national literacy networks
- Clear behaviour policy with strong middle and senior leadership support structures
- Collaborative English faculty planning with a commitment to manageable and purposeful workloads
- A professional culture that recognises, develops, and retains outstanding classroom practitioners
The Role
As English Lead Practitioner, you will combine exceptional classroom teaching across KS3, KS4, and KS5 with a wider responsibility for driving pedagogical quality across the English department and beyond. You will model outstanding practice, lead on curriculum and assessment development, deliver coaching and professional learning to colleagues, and use pupil progress data intelligently to raise attainment at every level. You will contribute to whole-school teaching and learning strategy, champion literacy across the curriculum, and play a key role in enrichment provision - including creative writing programmes, university preparation initiatives, and reading for pleasure campaigns.
What the School is Looking For
This permanent English Lead Practitioner position is best suited to candidates who:
- Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Possess a strong academic background - a 2:1 degree or above in English or a related discipline from a reputable university, ideally Russell Group
- Can demonstrate a substantial and successful track record of secondary English teaching within a UK school, with clear evidence of excellent pupil outcomes across KS4 and KS5
- Have experience of, or a clear and demonstrable aptitude for, coaching, mentoring, or leading on teaching and learning at departmental or whole-school level
- Show a deep understanding of curriculum design, literary pedagogy, and assessment strategy
- Are confident operating within and actively contributing to whole-school improvement priorities
- Are legally entitled to work in the UK - the school is unable to provide visa sponsorship
This is a senior classroom-facing role. Candidates without a proven record of outstanding UK secondary English teaching and evidence of wider professional influence will not be considered.
