Job Description

SEN English Teacher – Enfield – September 2026

What does it mean to teach English to a pupil who has always found words difficult? For the right person, it means everything. A respected specialist provision in Enfield is looking for an exceptional SEN English Teacher to join their team from September 2026 - someone who understands that literacy is not just a subject but a life skill, and who approaches that responsibility with both expertise and genuine care.

About the School

This Enfield school works with pupils whose relationship with learning has often been complicated by unmet need, communication difficulties, or interrupted education. Its English provision is built around that reality - lessons are carefully crafted to develop reading fluency, written expression, and spoken communication through structured, multi-sensory approaches that meet pupils where they are whilst consistently raising the bar. The school holds a Good Ofsted rating and is particularly praised for the quality of its provision for pupils with literacy-related SEND. A whole-school therapeutic ethos runs through everything, creating an environment where a skilled SEN

English Teacher can do some of the most rewarding work of their career.

What the School Offers

  • Specialist training in literacy intervention approaches including structured literacy, Lexonik, and communication-based frameworks
  • Small teaching groups with genuinely personalised learning - no two lessons, and no two pupils, are the same
  • A SENDCO team that works closely alongside every SEN English Teacher, providing regular case review, joint planning, and multi-agency liaison
  • A school that measures its success not just in grades but in the moments when a reluctant reader picks up a book independently
  • Genuine scope for an experienced practitioner to shape and lead the English curriculum within the provision over time

The Role

Teaching English here looks different from a mainstream classroom - and that is precisely the point. As an SEN English Teacher, you will design and deliver bespoke literacy-rich lessons that respond directly to each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan targets, using your subject expertise to find creative pathways into texts, writing tasks, and discussion that might otherwise feel inaccessible. You will work as part of a close-knit team, contributing to whole-school literacy initiatives, communicating regularly with families, and using a range of assessment tools to evidence progress in ways that go beyond conventional data.

What the School is Looking For

The school is looking for an SEN English Teacher who:

  • Holds British QTS through a UK-accredited teacher training programme - overseas qualifications will not be considered
  • Graduated with a 2:1 or above in English, English Literature, or a related discipline from a reputable UK university
  • Brings classroom experience from within UK school settings, with evidence of teaching pupils with literacy difficulties, communication needs, or other SEND (placements or permanent posts considered)
  • Can demonstrate adaptable, creative lesson design that has produced meaningful progress for pupils with additional needs
  • Is emotionally resilient, professionally boundaried, and genuinely motivated by working with some of education's most complex learners
  • Holds full legal entitlement to work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available

ECT applicants are considered where formal UK teacher training has been completed and some relevant SEND experience can be demonstrated.

Salary & Contract

Outer London MPS: £37,870 to £50,474, with UPS up to £56,154. TLR opportunities exist for candidates ready to take on a wider role in shaping the school's English and literacy provision.

This is not a role for everyone - but for the right SEN English Teacher, it will be the most meaningful position they have ever held. If that sounds like you, we would very much like to hear from you.
