Job Description

Learning Support Assistant | Barking & Dagenham | September 2026

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain meaningful experience in education before pursuing teacher training or a career in educational psychology?

A caring and inclusive primary school in Barking & Dagenham is seeking to appoint a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to work closely with pupils who require additional support, while developing valuable skills and experience within a primary school setting.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils across EYFS, KS1, and KS2, helping them to engage positively with learning and reach their full potential. You will work alongside class teachers and the SENCO to provide targeted support for children with a range of special educational needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

This role would be particularly well suited to a graduate considering a future career in teaching, SEND education, or educational psychology. A Learning Support Assistant will gain first-hand experience of child development, behaviour support, and inclusive educational practice, making it an excellent foundation for further training and professional development.

Why Join This School?

  • School holidays off and term-time only working.
  • Supportive and experienced SEND team.
  • Opportunity to work with a wide range of additional learning needs.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Friendly and welcoming primary school environment.
  • Gain valuable experience working alongside experienced teachers and SEN professionals.

The ideal Learning Support Assistant will be patient, empathetic, and committed to helping children succeed. Previous experience working with children through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching, or school-based roles would be advantageous.
