SEND Learning Support Assistant | Newham | September 2026 Start

Are you a graduate with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs? A welcoming and highly inclusive primary school in Newham is seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to join from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis until July 2027, with the potential to extend beyond the academic year.

This role is ideal for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Teaching or wider SEND professions. The school has built an excellent reputation for its inclusive practice, with a dedicated SEND team providing tailored support for pupils with Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language needs and SEMH. Staff work collaboratively with families and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

SEND Learning Support Assistant – What the School Offers

The Role

You will provide 1:1, small-group and classroom support for pupils with a range of additional needs across the primary phase. Alongside supporting learning, you will help develop pupils' communication, emotional regulation, confidence and independence through carefully planned interventions. You will work closely with teachers and the SEND team to monitor progress and adapt support to meet individual needs.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a 2:1 degree or above from a leading UK university
  • Has previous child-centred experience through tutoring, mentoring, coaching or similar settings
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is patient, proactive and passionate about supporting children with SEND
