Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting children with complex additional needs? A highly inclusive specialist provision in Hackney is seeking a PMLD Mentor to join from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis until July 2027, with the potential to extend beyond the academic year.

This is an outstanding opportunity for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or SEND teaching. The school provides exceptional support for pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver highly personalised learning, communication and therapeutic programmes. Every pupil benefits from an individualised approach designed to maximise independence, engagement and personal development.

PMLD Mentor – What the School Offers

  • £444–£513 per week via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay)
  • Full academic year contract until July 2027 with potential extension
  • Comprehensive SEND training, including moving and handling, communication strategies and sensory integration
  • Opportunities to work alongside Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists
  • Weekly CPD focused on complex needs, safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • Excellent preparation for teacher training, NHS careers, Master's degrees and doctoral study
  • A highly experienced inclusion team committed to staff development and wellbeing

The Role

As a PMLD Mentor, you will support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties through 1:1 and small-group sessions, both in the classroom and during therapeutic activities. You will help pupils access learning using communication aids, sensory resources and personalised intervention strategies while supporting their physical, emotional and social development. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you will play a vital role in helping pupils achieve meaningful progress and celebrate every milestone.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a 2:1 degree or above from a Russell Group or leading UK university
  • Has previous child-centred experience supporting children or young people
  • Demonstrates outstanding communication, patience and empathy
  • Has a genuine interest in SEND and supporting pupils with complex learning needs
