Maths Academic Mentor | Southwark

Are you a Maths graduate looking to gain valuable experience in a secondary school before pursuing a career in teaching? This Maths Academic Mentor role in Southwark offers the opportunity to work closely with pupils, strengthen their mathematical understanding and build the classroom experience needed for a future career in education.

As a Maths Academic Mentor, you will provide targeted support to pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students who may be struggling with particular areas of the Maths curriculum. You will work alongside experienced Maths teachers, supporting lessons, delivering small-group interventions and providing additional one-to-one academic support where required.

Full Academic Year | £500–£550 per week

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with their understanding of GCSE and KS3 Maths.
  • Delivering targeted one-to-one and small-group Maths interventions.
  • Helping pupils overcome gaps in mathematical knowledge and develop confidence.
  • Supporting Maths teachers during lessons and contributing to classroom activities.
  • Assisting pupils with exam preparation, revision and independent study.
  • Tracking pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils while maintaining high academic expectations.

The successful Maths Academic Mentor will:

  • Hold a 2:1 degree or above, ideally in Maths or a closely related subject.
  • Have strong A-Levels or equivalent academic qualifications.
  • Have a genuine interest in working with secondary-age pupils.
  • Be confident explaining mathematical concepts clearly.
  • Have strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Be considering a future career in teaching, education or a related field.
