English Academic Mentor | Lewisham

Are you an English graduate looking to gain meaningful experience in a secondary school before pursuing a career in teaching? This English Academic Mentor role in Lewisham is an excellent opportunity to use your subject knowledge to support pupils with their literacy, reading and writing while developing valuable classroom experience.

Working as an English Academic Mentor, you will support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students develop their confidence in English and improve their understanding of the curriculum. You will work closely with English teachers, providing additional support in lessons as well as delivering targeted one-to-one and small-group interventions.

Full Academic Year | £500–£550 per week

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting English teachers during lessons and classroom activities.
  • Assisting pupils with GCSE revision and exam preparation.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop greater confidence in English.
  • Providing feedback to teachers on pupil progress and areas requiring further support.

The successful English Academic Mentor will:

  • Hold a 2:1 degree or above, ideally in English, English Literature or a related subject.
  • Have strong A-Levels or equivalent academic qualifications.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be confident working with secondary-age pupils.
  • Have a genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Be considering a future career in teaching, education or a related field.
