Academic Mentor | Waltham Forest | Immediate Start

£444–£513 per week via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay) | Full-time | Term-time only | Immediate Start

Are you a high-achieving graduate with a strong background in Maths or Science and an interest in supporting young people academically? A well-regarded secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking an Academic Mentor to join their team immediately, supporting students across Maths and Science up to KS4.

This role offers valuable experience within a supportive secondary school while allowing you to work closely with experienced teachers and make a measurable difference to student progress. It is particularly suited to graduates considering teacher training, Educational Psychology, postgraduate study or other careers working with young people.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions across Maths and Science up to GCSE level
  • Identifying gaps in students’ knowledge and helping them consolidate key concepts
  • Supporting GCSE students with revision, examination preparation and subject-specific confidence
  • Providing additional classroom support to students with SEND and other learning needs
  • Adapting explanations and resources to suit individual students and their learning needs
  • Monitoring progress and sharing feedback with teachers and the wider support team

The Ideal Candidate

  • 2:1 degree or above in Maths, Science, Engineering or a related subject from a leading UK university
  • Strong subject knowledge up to GCSE level
  • Previous experience working with children or young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching or similar
  • Excellent communication skills and a patient, proactive approach
  • Genuine commitment to supporting students, including those with SEND
