1:1 Learning Support Assistant | Lewisham

Are you passionate about supporting young people and looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school? This 1:1 Learning Support Assistant role in Lewisham offers the opportunity to work closely with an individual pupil, providing consistent academic, behavioural and pastoral support throughout the school day.

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with the pupil, classroom teachers and wider support team to understand their individual needs and help them access the secondary curriculum. You will provide targeted support in lessons, encourage independence and help the pupil build confidence in their learning and relationships.

Full Academic Year | £500–£550 per week

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing consistent 1:1 support to the allocated pupil throughout the school day.
• Supporting the pupil to access lessons and complete classroom activities.
• Breaking down tasks and explaining instructions where additional support is required.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and independence.
• Supporting the pupil with organisation, transitions and routines.
• Building a strong, trusting relationship while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Working closely with teachers and SEN staff to monitor progress and adapt support.

The successful 1:1 Learning Support Assistant will:

• Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting.
• Have a genuine interest in supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Be patient, consistent and resilient.
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be confident supporting pupils who may require additional academic, behavioural or emotional support.
• Be able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Be committed to helping pupils become more independent.
