Maths Graduate (PRU Teaching Assistant)
Are you a Maths Graduate looking to gain experience in an alternative education setting? Secure a Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant role within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), supporting challenging learners to rebuild their confidence, develop numeracy skills and re-engage with education.
Based at one of our supportive partner schools in Mitcham, you will work alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff, receiving ongoing training and development throughout your role.
Working in classrooms and providing targeted one-to-one and small group support, you will help pupils who have struggled to access mainstream education.
This role is ideal for a resilient graduate who can confidently manage challenging behaviour, remain calm under pressure and build positive relationships with resistant learners.
Maths Graduate (PRU Teaching Assistant) | Job Summary
- Initial 1-year contract commencing September or October 2026
- £500–£650 per week | £100–£130 per day | Paid weekly via PAYE
- Pupil Referral Unit based in Mitcham
- Supporting secondary-aged pupils with behavioural, social, emotional and academic needs
- Contract extensions available

Maths Graduate (PRU Teaching Assistant) | Job Description
- Delivering engaging Maths support through one-to-one and small group interventions.
- Helping pupils develop essential numeracy skills, confidence and independence.
- Supporting students with SEMH needs and challenging or resistant behaviours.
- Building positive relationships with hard-to-reach learners, using patience, consistency and effective behaviour management.
- Adapting learning activities to accommodate different abilities and individual needs.
- Working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to monitor progress and encourage engagement.
This role requires a resilient, proactive and confident graduate who isn't easily unsettled by challenging behaviour. A Maths degree, excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with disengaged learners are essential. Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, education or behaviour support would be advantageous.
