A fulfilling opportunity has arisen for a compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Reception Pupil with high ASD needs, who is non-verbal, at a welcoming Primary school in Havering. As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide consistent, empathetic support, helping the student re-engage with learning and build confidence in a calm, structured setting.

1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 emotional and academic support to a Year 11 pupil with SEMH needs

  • Assist with engagement, confidence, and re-establishing attendance routines

  • Support progress in Maths and English up to GCSE level

  • Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and self-esteem

  • Build trusting relationships with parents and external agencies

  • Monitor and report on wellbeing, engagement, and academic progress


Requirements for this 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant role:

  • A 1:1 or 2:1 degree from a top 20 UK university

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or mental health needs

  • Training in behaviour or mental health support (or willingness to complete)

  • Empathy, patience, and emotional resilience

  • Confidence supporting GCSE Maths and English

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ideal for aspiring therapists or child psychologists
