Are you passionate about empowering young people to achieve their goals and become as independent as possible?

A forward-thinking secondary school and sixth form in Hayes is seeking two Student Independence Mentors to support a bright and ambitious student with physical needs as she begins the next stage of her educational journey.

This is far more than a traditional SEND support role. The successful candidates will help a talented young person access education, technology and enrichment opportunities whilst encouraging confidence, independence and self-advocacy every step of the way.

£500+ per week (PAYE) | Full-time | September 2026 Start

Student Independence Mentor – The Role

• Support a sixth-form student with physical disabilities throughout the school day
• Promote independence and confidence in both academic and social settings
• Assist with accessibility, mobility and navigating the school environment
• Support the use of assistive technology and specialist equipment
• Work alongside teachers, therapists and family members to provide consistent support
• Provide wider SEND support across the school when not working directly with the student

About the Student

• The student is a creative and ambitious young person with aspirations in music and media. She is a wheelchair user and has cystic fibrosis, requiring support with mobility, accessibility and accessing certain aspects of school life.
• The focus of this role is knowing when to help and when to step back, ensuring the student can develop independence whilst fully participating in everything the school has to offer.

• Comfortable using technology and learning new systems
• Passionate about inclusion, accessibility and SEND

Experience in education is desirable but not essential. Graduates from Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Youth Work or related fields are particularly encouraged to apply.
