Autism Support Assistant | Southwark | September Start

Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism and considering a future career in Educational Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy or SEND teaching? This Autism Support Assistant opportunity in Southwark offers the chance to join a specialist education setting where personalised support, therapeutic practice and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of everything they do.

Working within small classes alongside experienced teachers, therapists and specialist support staff, the successful Autism Support Assistant will help pupils develop communication, emotional regulation, independence and confidence. Every pupil has an individual learning programme designed around their needs, allowing staff to celebrate meaningful progress both inside and outside the classroom.

Full Academic Year | £500–£550 per week

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism throughout the school day

  • Encouraging independence during lessons and social activities
  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to implement individual support plans
  • Monitoring pupil progress and celebrating small achievements

The successful Autism Support Assistant will:

  • Hold A-Levels (or equivalent qualifications) and a BA degree
  • Demonstrate genuine passion for supporting children with Autism
  • Be patient, empathetic and resilient
  • Communicate confidently with pupils, staff and families
  • Have aspirations towards SEND, Psychology or Therapy careers
