Are you a Science graduate interested in helping pupils understand the subjects that shape the world around them? A secondary school in Southwark is seeking a driven Science Academic Mentor to support pupils across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, helping them develop subject knowledge and prepare for GCSE examinations.

You will work alongside the school's Science department to deliver targeted interventions, explain complex scientific concepts and help pupils apply their knowledge to examination questions. This is a strong opportunity for a graduate considering a future in teaching, research or science-related education.

November Start | £500–£550 per week | Full-Time

What the school can offer a Science Academic Mentor:

  • Experience supporting pupils across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced Science teachers.

  • Practical experience delivering GCSE-focused academic interventions.

  • Exposure to different approaches to explaining complex scientific concepts.

  • Opportunities to develop presentation, communication and mentoring skills.

  • A valuable foundation for teacher training or a future career in science education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering one-to-one and small-group Science interventions.

  • Helping pupils understand key scientific principles and terminology.

  • Supporting GCSE revision, practical knowledge and examination technique.

  • Breaking down challenging topics into clear, manageable explanations.

  • Helping pupils interpret scientific data, graphs and examination questions.

  • Working with teachers to identify gaps in knowledge and track progress.

The successful Science Academic Mentor will:

  • Hold a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a related scientific subject.

  • Have a strong understanding of secondary-level Science.

  • Explain technical information clearly and confidently.

  • Be enthusiastic about making Science accessible and engaging.

  • Have a patient and proactive approach to supporting pupils.

  • Be interested in developing a career in education or a science-related field.

This full-time, Monday to Friday role starts in November and continues until the end of the academic year. If you are a Science graduate who wants to share your subject knowledge and help pupils build the confidence to succeed in their GCSEs, this could be the ideal opportunity.
