Second in Charge of English | Richmond Town Centre | September 2025 Start
A high-performing secondary school in Richmond is recruiting for a Second in Charge of English to join its thriving English department from September 2025. This full-time Second in Charge of English role is ideal for an outstanding practitioner ready to take on added responsibility while remaining focused on excellent classroom teaching.
As Second in Charge of English, you’ll support the Head of English with curriculum planning, departmental QA, mentoring ECTs, and driving literacy-focused interventions. The successful Second in Charge of English will also take the lead on a specific area, such as Key Stage 3, writing enrichment, or whole-school oracy, depending on experience.
The school offers strong behaviour, an emphasis on CPD, and a department with excellent GCSE and A-Level results. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced English Teacher who wants to step into middle leadership in a well-resourced, academic school.
Second in Charge of English – Key Responsibilities:
- Support curriculum planning and assessment frameworks
- Mentor and coach early career teachers
- Lead a focus area within the department (e.g. KS3, oracy, reading strategy)
- Teach KS3–KS5 with opportunity to lead sixth form teaching
Person Specification:
- UK QTS with strong subject specialism
- At least 3 years’ teaching experience in English
- Clear evidence of impact and leadership potential
