Are you a high-achieving graduate from a writing-heavy subject like English, History or Politics, and keen to gain experience as a Literacy Support Mentor this September?
A welcoming secondary school in Greater London is seeking a Literacy Support Mentor to work with pupils needing targeted help with reading, writing and comprehension. This role suits graduates with strong literacy skills—whether from English, History, Politics or similar backgrounds—who are passionate about education.
As a Literacy Support Mentor, you’ll support students with EAL, mild SEND, or below age-related reading levels. You’ll work alongside teachers and the SENCo, delivering tailored interventions and reinforcing key concepts in both mainstream and small-group settings. You’ll be matched with classes that align with your academic strengths, whether through your degree, A-Levels or tutoring experience. This Literacy Support Mentor position offers valuable experience ahead of teacher training, educational psychology or other school-based careers.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils in your specialist subject across KS2–KS4
- Delivering 1:1 and small group sessions to reinforce classroom learning
- Adapting resources to meet diverse learning needs
- Monitoring pupil progress and feeding back to teachers
We’re looking for:
- A 2:1 or above in English, History, Politics, Classics or similar
- Strong literacy and communication skills
- A genuine interest in education
- Full academic year availability
Please note: Applicants must hold a UK undergraduate degree. We cannot accept overseas degrees (even with a UK Master’s). Sponsorship is not available.
