SEN Teaching Assistant – The Role

 

Location: Southwark

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Contract: Full-time, Long-term

 

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

 

A welcoming secondary school is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support students with SEMH needs. This is a full-time, long-term role, ideal for someone with experience supporting students who require emotional and behavioural support in an educational setting.

 

As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will:

  • Work 1:1 with students to support her academic engagement, wellbeing, and confidence
  • Provide consistent emotional support and help manage any SEMH-related challenges
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship that encourages progress and independence
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to deliver tailored interventions

 

SEN Teaching Assistant:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting students with SEMH, anxiety, or behavioural needs
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills
  • Can maintain calm and consistency in challenging situations
  • Is proactive and adaptable, with a genuine desire to make a difference in a young person’s life
  • Ideally holds relevant experience in a school, youth work, or mental health setting
