Job Description

Year 1 Teaching Assistant | Purley

Are you energetic, enthusiastic and confident working with young children? Would you love a role where no two days are the same and you can make a real difference to a child’s early learning?

We are looking for a lively, proactive and quick-thinking Graduate Learning Support Assistant to support a busy Year 1 class at a friendly mainstream primary school in Purley.

Year 1 is a whirlwind of curiosity, excitement and big emotions. This class is bright, bubbly and full of character – and the school are looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, can jump in quickly to support, and isn’t afraid to get stuck in!

You’ll be working closely with the class teacher to support a pupil with Autism who benefits from consistent reassurance, smooth transitions and help staying regulated during the day. You will also provide general support in class, helping to keep the busy classroom running smoothly, and supporting children with their learning, play and social development.

This role will suit someone who is naturally upbeat, emotionally attuned and able to read the room in the moment. You must be able to switch tasks quickly, stay calm under pressure and bring warmth and humour into the classroom.

What the school can offer you:

  • Full-time, term-time role: 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced KS1 environment
  • Support from an experienced class teacher and SENCo
  • Fantastic preparation for Teacher Training, Educational Psychology or a SEND career

Person Specification:

  • Degree in Psychology, Education or a related subject (desirable)
  • Confidence, resilience and the ability to adapt quickly in a busy setting
  • Strong communication skills and a natural rapport with young children
  • A genuine passion for early years, behaviour and child development
  • Previous experience with children (desirable, but not essential)

If you are energetic, caring and love the idea of being part of an exciting, lively Year 1 classroom, apply today to join this warm and supportive Purley primary school.
