Job Description

Physics Teacher – St Albans, Hertfordshire – September 2026

This St Albans secondary school has an excellent reputation for Science education, with Physics taught as a distinct, specialist discipline by subject experts who bring real depth and enthusiasm to every lesson. The curriculum is ambitious and well-sequenced from KS3 through to KS4, with strong GCSE outcomes and healthy sixth form progression into Physics, Engineering, and Medicine. Behaviour is managed through clear, consistent whole-school expectations that give every Physics Teacher the focused, settled environment needed to teach with confidence and ambition. Enrichment including Physics Olympiad participation, STEM challenge weeks, and university partnership events reflect the department's broader vision for its pupils.

What the School Offers

  • A specialist Science department with modern laboratory facilities and reliable technician support
  • Subject-specific CPD through Institute of Physics networks and regional Science partnerships
  • A collaborative departmental culture with shared schemes of work and streamlined assessment processes
  • Visible, supportive SLT with clear progression pathways into middle leadership for strong performers
  • A thriving school community in one of Hertfordshire's most sought-after locations

The Role

As a Physics Teacher, you will deliver precise, well-structured lessons across KS3 and KS4, using formative and summative assessment to track progress and stretch pupils beyond the specification. You will contribute to curriculum planning, support STEM enrichment activities, and build strong, purposeful relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues. Maintaining high standards of behaviour and attainment will be central to your practice as a Physics Teacher in this school.

What the School is Looking For

This permanent Physics Teacher position will suit candidates who:

  • Hold British QTS awarded through a UK-accredited teacher training programme
  • Graduated with a 2:1 or above in Physics or a closely related discipline from a reputable UK university, ideally Russell Group
  • Can demonstrate meaningful classroom experience within a UK secondary school setting through placements or a substantive teaching post
  • Show clear evidence of well-planned lessons and measurable pupil progress across the Physics curriculum
  • Are confident working within an established whole-school behaviour framework
  • Are legally entitled to work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available

ECT applicants are welcomed provided formal UK teacher training has been completed or is in its final stages.

Salary & Contract

Fringe MPS: £34,398 to £46,839, with UPS up to £52,490. TLR opportunities may be available for candidates with relevant departmental or enrichment leadership experience.
