Job Description

Teacher of Science – Enfield – September 2026

An ambitious, community-driven secondary school in Enfield is seeking a resilient and passionate Teacher of Science to join their dedicated Science faculty from September 2026. This is a permanent Teacher of Science role within a school rated Good by Ofsted - one where the relationships you build with pupils will be among the most rewarding of your career, and where great teaching genuinely transforms lives.

About the School

This Enfield secondary school serves a diverse, urban community and is honest about the fact that some of its pupils arrive with complex backgrounds and significant barriers to learning. Behaviour can be challenging - but the school has clear, well-embedded systems and an SLT that consistently backs its staff. What teachers here find, time and again, is that once you earn the trust of these pupils the relationships become something truly special. The Science department is well-established, purposeful, and full of young people who respond brilliantly to teachers who are consistent, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in their futures.

What the School Offers

  • Strong whole-school behaviour systems with dedicated pastoral support behind every Teacher of Science
  • A Science department with shared planning, reliable technician support, and a collaborative team ethos
  • Structured CPD with clear pathways into middle leadership for practitioners ready to take the next step
  • An honest, grounded school culture where staff are valued, supported, and trusted to do their jobs
  • The kind of pupil relationships that remind you exactly why you chose teaching as a career

The Role

As a Teacher of Science, you will deliver well-structured, engaging lessons across KS3 and KS4, using assessment data to track progress and adapt your teaching to meet the needs of a complex and rewarding pupil cohort. You will contribute to departmental planning, support Science enrichment activities, and invest in the kind of consistent, patient relationships with pupils and families that underpin long-term academic progress. When those relationships click, this school will give you some of the most memorable moments of your teaching career.

What the School is Looking For

This permanent Teacher of Science position will suit candidates who:

  • Hold British QTS awarded through a UK-accredited teacher training programme
  • Graduated with a 2:1 or above in a Science discipline from a reputable UK university, ideally Russell Group
  • Can demonstrate meaningful classroom experience within a UK secondary school setting through placements or a substantive teaching post
  • Are resilient, consistent, and relationship-focused - with the emotional intelligence to connect with pupils who do not always make it straightforward
  • Are confident working within established behaviour frameworks and committed to maintaining high expectations regardless of the challenges
  • Are legally entitled to work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available

ECT applicants with genuine subject depth and a resilient, determined mindset are welcomed provided formal UK teacher training has been completed.

Salary & Contract

Outer London MPS: £37,870 to £50,474, with UPS up to £56,154. TLR opportunities available for candidates with relevant departmental or enrichment leadership experience.

The pupils at this school do not always make it easy - but the teachers who stick with it will tell you it is worth every moment. If you are a committed Teacher of Science looking for a permanent Secondary Teaching Opportunity where your resilience, subject knowledge, and human instincts will all be called upon, we would love to hear from you.
