Job Description

Primary Teaching Assistant | Bromley

Are you a graduate looking to gain meaningful experience in a primary classroom before progressing into teaching? This Primary Teaching Assistant opportunity in Bromley offers the chance to work closely with pupils across the primary age range, supporting their academic development while learning directly from experienced class teachers.

This is a particularly strong opportunity for someone considering a Primary PGCE, Schools Direct or a career in education. Rather than simply providing general classroom support, you’ll have opportunities to work with small groups, deliver targeted interventions and support pupils who need additional guidance with their learning.

The school has a structured approach to early reading, mathematics and pupil development, giving you exposure to the areas that underpin strong progress throughout primary education.

Full Academic Year | £500–£550 per week

What the school can offer a Primary Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience across KS1 and KS2
  • Training in phonics, reading and early mathematics
  • Opportunities to lead small-group intervention sessions
  • Regular guidance from experienced class teachers
  • Experience supporting pupils with different learning needs
  • Insight into assessment, lesson planning and classroom management
  • Strong preparation for Primary teacher training

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils during whole-class lessons
  • Working with small groups on reading, writing and Maths
  • Supporting phonics and guided reading activities
  • Providing additional help to pupils who require further explanation
  • Encouraging independence and positive classroom behaviour
  • Supporting teachers with resources, assessment and classroom organisation

The successful Primary Teaching Assistant will:

  • Hold A-Levels or equivalent qualifications
  • Have a BA/BSc degree or be working towards one
  • Have strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Enjoy working with children and building positive relationships
  • Be proactive, patient and enthusiastic
  • Have a genuine interest in progressing within education

If you are looking for a Primary Teaching Assistant role where you can develop genuine classroom experience and establish whether teaching is the right career for you, this is an excellent Bromley opportunity from September 2026.
