Unqualified English Teacher – Braintree – ASAP Start
A successful secondary school in Braintree is seeking a confident and enthusiastic Unqualified English Teacher to join their team as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced education professional or English graduate who is confident in the classroom and passionate about supporting pupils to achieve their academic potential.
The successful candidate will teach small nurture classes across a full-time teaching timetable, working predominantly with Year 7 pupils to strengthen their academic skills, build confidence and support their transition into secondary education.

The Role – As an Unqualified English Teacher, you will:
- Teach small nurture classes across a full-time teaching timetable
- Work predominantly with Year 7 pupils, supporting their transition into secondary school
- Deliver engaging and structured English lessons designed around individual pupil needs
- Boost pupils' academic progress, with a particular focus on English and literacy
- Support pupils with reading, writing, spelling, grammar and comprehension
- Identify gaps in knowledge and adapt teaching accordingly
- Build pupils' confidence, independence and engagement with learning
- Establish positive relationships and maintain high expectations within the classroom
- Use assessment to monitor progress and inform future teaching
- Work closely with English teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team
- Create a calm, nurturing and purposeful classroom environment
What the School is Looking For – The ideal Unqualified English Teacher will:
- Hold a 2:1 or First-Class Degree, ideally in English, English Literature or a related subject
- Have a strong academic and literacy background
- Be confident and comfortable teaching in a secondary school classroom
- Have experience working with children or young people, ideally in a teaching or tutoring capacity
- Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils who may require additional academic or pastoral support
- Be confident adapting lessons to meet a range of individual needs
- Have high expectations while maintaining a nurturing and encouraging approach
- Be able to manage a classroom effectively and build strong relationships with pupils
- Be passionate about helping Year 7 pupils develop academically and personally
- Be legally entitled to work in the UK – visa sponsorship is not available
