Learning Support Assistant – Chelmsford – ASAP Start

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Chelmsford is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and academically strong Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team on a temporary, full-time basis, starting ASAP.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate with a 2:1 or First Class degree in Psychology or a related subject, who is passionate about supporting children with SEND and complex additional needs and is looking to develop their experience within a primary school setting.

About the School

The school has a dedicated specialist provision supporting a small number of pupils with complex additional needs. The provision includes a learning space, sensory room and outdoor area, creating a supportive environment where pupils can develop academically, socially and emotionally.

You will work closely with the existing LSA, teachers and SENDCO to provide personalised support and help pupils reach their potential.

The Role – Learning Support Assistant

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex additional needs.
• Support children's learning, communication and personal development.
• Assist with engaging and differentiated learning activities.
• Promote independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Support pupils across the classroom, sensory room and outdoor areas.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Work closely with the SENDCO and wider school team.
• Adapt activities and approaches to meet individual needs.
• Help maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

The ideal Learning Support Assistant will have:

• A 2:1 or First Class degree in Psychology or a related subject – essential.
• Experience working with children, ideally within a primary, SEND or specialist setting.
• A genuine interest in child development, education and additional needs.
• A nurturing, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to adapt to different children's needs.
• A proactive, flexible and enthusiastic attitude.
• A genuine commitment to supporting children's development and wellbeing.
• Full legal right to work in the UK – visa sponsorship is not available.
