Maths Academic Mentor | Southwark

Are you a high-achieving Maths graduate interested in helping secondary school pupils improve their academic performance? A secondary school in Southwark is seeking a Maths Academic Mentor to provide targeted support across KS3 and GCSE, helping pupils strengthen their subject knowledge and prepare for examinations.

This role is particularly suited to a graduate considering Teacher Training or a future career in education. You will work alongside the Maths department to identify gaps in pupils' understanding, deliver focused interventions and help students become more confident when approaching mathematical problems.

Maths Academic Mentor | Southwark

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils across KS3 and GCSE Mathematics.

  • Supporting examination preparation and revision.

  • Breaking down complex mathematical concepts into manageable steps.

  • Identifying areas where pupils need additional explanation or practice.

  • Working with Maths teachers to monitor pupil progress.

  • Encouraging pupils to develop problem-solving skills and independent learning habits.

The successful Maths Academic Mentor will:

  • Hold a 2:1 or above degree in Mathematics or a related subject.

  • Have strong A-Level results, ideally including Mathematics.

  • Have excellent numerical and analytical skills.

  • Be confident explaining mathematical concepts clearly.

  • Be able to motivate pupils who lack confidence in the subject.

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be interested in pursuing a career in teaching or education.
