Job Description

Aspiring Speech and Language Therapists – SEND Teaching Assistant

Wimbledon | Start November 2026 | Until July 2027 initially

Are you a Psychology or Linguistics graduate with a passion for communication, language development and supporting children with additional needs? Looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience to help launch a future career in Speech and Language Therapy?

We’re recruiting enthusiastic and proactive graduates to join a specialist ASC provision in Wimbledon, supporting children aged 3–11 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Some pupils also have Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and ADHD.

Why is this such a great opportunity?

  • You’ll work in small classes of just 6–7 pupils, alongside a qualified teacher and two Teaching Assistants, allowing you to build meaningful relationships and provide tailored support.
  • Even better, a qualified Speech and Language Therapist works on site four days a week!
  • This offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals, gain first-hand insight into speech and language interventions, and develop your understanding of communication needs in a specialist setting.
  • Extensive training is available, making this an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and gain invaluable experience.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting children's communication, language, social interaction and learning.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.
  • Using tailored strategies to encourage engagement and language development.
  • Working closely with teachers, TAs and specialist professionals to support pupil progress.

Who are we looking for?

  • We’re particularly interested in Psychology and Linguistics graduates with a genuine interest in speech and language development.
  • You’ll be a strong communicator, proactive, patient and eager to learn.
  • Previous SEND experience is beneficial but not essential.

The details: The role starts in November 2026 and runs until July 2027 initially, with the potential for a permanent position beyond this.

If you're considering a future career in Speech and Language Therapy, Educational Psychology or a related field, this could be the perfect first step!
