English Graduate – Brentwood – ASAP Start

A welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in Brentwood is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic and academically strong English Graduate to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis, starting ASAP.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent English graduate looking to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a career in teaching. The successful candidate will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop their reading, writing, comprehension and analytical skills while building confidence in English.

Whether you are considering a future career in teaching, English education or a related field, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive secondary school environment.

About the School

The school is committed to providing an engaging, inclusive and academically ambitious learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The English department plays a key role in developing students' literacy, communication and critical-thinking skills. You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, gaining first-hand insight into effective teaching practices, classroom management and student engagement.

The Role – English Graduate

As an English Graduate, you will:

  • Support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with their English studies.

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group academic support to help students improve their reading, writing and comprehension.

  • Assist English teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.

  • Help students develop their analytical skills, vocabulary and written communication.

  • Support students preparing for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations.

  • Encourage positive learning habits, confidence and independent thinking.

  • Help identify areas where students may need additional academic support.

  • Contribute to maintaining a positive, focused and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider school team to support student progress.

What We're Looking For

The ideal English Graduate will have:

  • A degree in English Literature, English Language or a closely related subject.

  • A strong academic background and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A genuine passion for English, literature and education.

  • The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and engage students in learning.

  • A patient, approachable and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.

  • The confidence to work with students of different abilities and learning needs.

  • A proactive approach and a willingness to learn from experienced teachers.

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education.

  • Full legal right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.

Previous experience working with young people, tutoring or supporting students in a school setting would be advantageous but is not essential.

Why Apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity for an English graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a secondary school before progressing towards teacher training or a career in education.

You will develop valuable skills in classroom support, student engagement, literacy development and behaviour management while working alongside experienced teaching professionals.

The role would be particularly suited to graduates considering a future career as an English teacher, with the opportunity to gain meaningful school-based experience and strengthen a future teacher training application.

If you are an enthusiastic English graduate looking to inspire young people and take the first step towards a career in education, we would love to hear from you.
