SEND Teaching Assistant – Croydon

 

We are inviting applications from caring and empathetic SEND Teaching Assistants who are looking to work in a specialist school and provide support to students aged 16-25 with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

 

This SEND Teaching Assistant role is for the 2024-2025 academic year, with permanent appointments an option from September 2025.

SEND Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with PMLD, assisting with their personal care, communication, and educational needs.
  • Support students with physical disabilities, including helping with mobility and use of specialist equipment.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and therapists to implement individual learning and care plans tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Use your initiative and proactive approach to adapt activities and strategies to engage students and promote their independence.
  • Be an empathetic and patient presence in the classroom, fostering a positive and supportive environment for the students.
  • Assist with sensory and therapeutic activities, contributing to the enrichment of students' lives and promoting their well-being.

 

Essential Qualities:

  • Experience in a PMLD school or residential setting with PMLD service users is highly desirable.
  • A Social Care degree or similar qualification would be well-suited to this role.
  • Manual Handling and Child and Adult Level 2 Safeguarding qualifications are advantageous.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and emotional resilience, with a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to think on your feet and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
