A welcoming and well-established secondary school in Barking & Dagenham is seeking a Pastoral Teaching Assistant to join its team from January 2026. The school is known for its inclusive approach, calm atmosphere and strong emphasis on pupil welfare. Pastoral care is woven into daily school life, with clear routines, a supportive staff structure and a dedicated space for pupil wellbeing. Staff value the school’s consistency, positive culture and commitment to helping young people grow both personally and academically.

What the School Offers

  • Thorough induction and ongoing pastoral training, including safeguarding and behaviour development

  • Clear behaviour systems that help pupils and staff feel confident and supported

  • A friendly, collaborative team that places pupil wellbeing at the centre of its work

  • Opportunities to take on more responsibility or progress to teacher training

What the Role Involves

  • Supporting pupils with daily routines, emotional needs and behaviour

  • Working with pupils 1:1 or in small groups to help them manage emotions and re-engage with learning

  • Assisting in classrooms to help maintain calm, focused lessons

  • Delivering pastoral interventions and keeping track of pupil progress

  • Helping to maintain a safe, supportive environment across the school day

What the School is Looking For

The school is seeking a patient, calm and thoughtful individual who is genuinely committed to supporting young people.
A 2:1 or First-Class degree from a top UK university is preferred, and any experience working with children or young people is an advantage. Strong communication, emotional awareness and a proactive attitude are essential.

Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, as the school cannot offer visa sponsorship.
