Speech and Language Assistant (SEN)
Location: Islington
Pay: £90 to £100 per day (PAYE)
Start date: ASAP

 

Are you a graduate or experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong interest in Speech and Language Therapy and SEN support?

 

A specialist SEN school in Islington is seeking a Speech and Language Assistant to support pupils with complex communication needs. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience using Makaton, PECS and British Sign Language (BSL), looking to build long-term experience within a specialist setting.

 

Speech and Language Assistant (SEN) – The Role

  • Support pupils with severe and complex communication needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Use Makaton, PECS and BSL daily to support expressive and receptive communication
  • Assist in delivering speech and language interventions set by therapists and SEN professionals
  • Support pupils with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and additional learning needs
  • Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, SENCOs and specialist teaching staff
  • Encourage communication, engagement and independence across the school day

 

Speech and Language Assistant (SEN) – Ideal Candidate

  • A graduate in Linguistics, Psychology, Education or a related field, or an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Proven experience using Makaton, PECS and/or BSL in an SEN or specialist school setting
  • Clear ambition to progress into Speech and Language Therapy or specialist SEN roles
  • Calm, resilient and confident supporting pupils with complex needs
  • Strong communication skills and a child-centred approach
