Are you a driven Psychology Graduate looking for meaningful, hands‑on experience before progressing into teaching, Educational Psychology or child‑focused mental‑health careers? A nurturing primary school in Braintree is seeking a dedicated Psychology Graduate to join their team as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant this September.

This role is ideal for an aspiring teacher or future child psychologist who wants to apply theory to practice while making a genuine difference to a child’s daily school experience.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored support to a pupil with additional learning, social or emotional needs

  • Implement strategies that promote confidence, independence and emotional regulation

  • Work closely with the SENCo, class teacher and external specialists

  • Build a consistent, trusting relationship with the pupil you support

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and nurturing school environment

This is the perfect stepping stone for a Psychology Graduate wanting to build real‑world SEN experience before progressing into further training.

Academic Requirements

To be considered, applicants must hold:

  • Strong GCSE and A‑Level results

  • A 2:1 or First‑Class degree in Psychology (or closely related field)

  • A genuine interest in child development, SEN and behaviour

These academic expectations reflect the school’s commitment to high‑quality support and long‑term pupil outcomes.

Why This Role Is Ideal for Aspiring Teachers & Child Psychologists

This position offers:

  • Daily exposure to SEN, behaviour and intervention strategies

  • Experience working alongside teachers, SEN specialists and external agencies

  • A deep understanding of how children learn, regulate and build resilience

  • A strong foundation for PGCE, Schools Direct, Educational Psychology or mental‑health pathways

If you’re an aspiring teacher or future child psychologist, this role gives you the practical grounding universities and training providers value.

The school is seeking a Psychology Graduate who is:

  • Empathetic, patient and calm under pressure

  • Motivated to support children with additional needs

  • A strong communicator with a proactive, positive approach

  • Reflective, resilient and eager to learn

  • Passionate about pursuing a child‑centred career
